Read The Downing St. Memos

You can read the infamous memos here, on AfterDowningStreet.org and make up your own mind.
None of this was surprising to those of us on the West coast, for we had been reading the LA Times, which gave extensive coverage to the weak case for WMDs, and the strong case for continuing the policy of containment. There was little doubt before the invasion that Bush was determined to invade, no matter what the legal or practical difficulties. Many of us out here were trying to figure out why, not whether, he was going ahead with the attack.
Perhaps The New York Times failed to cover the Iraq story thoroughly because the 9/11 attack was close to home. Perhaps they and the Washington Post are so cozy with the inside-the-beltway crowd that they can’t effectively report in an independent manner. The New Yorker was right on top of the story all along.
